Visiting the Intelligent Assistive Technology and Systems Lab at the University of Toronto
The Intelligent Assistive Technology and Systems Lab (IATSL), located in the Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy at the University of Toronto is a leading research group on rehabilitation technology. Technology must play a fundamental role to benefit all people as they get older. The IATSL is well known regarding the research on fall detection, stroke recovery, dementia seizures, and Parkinson follow up, among others. In this context, Beatriz López has been enjoyed a three month stay at the IATSL, to participate in the research conducted in such leading lab, and be ready for the next challenges of healthcare: mental diseases. The XXI century epidemics are about mental diseases with a lot or burden to the society and healthcare systems. Technology must play a fundamental role to benefit all people subject to this type of disease, with special attention to people with neurological disorders and cognitive disorders. New machine learning algorithms and artificial intelligent methods should be developed to deal with new sensor information regarding emotions, mooed, and mental disorders. The stay of B. Lopez at IATSL has serve as to define the first step of the research to be conducted in the next years at the eXiT group.
